Product Overview

Cumbersome ice packs and hosing were once the only options to fight pain following injury or surgery. The RecoveryWrap-Equine System combines the benefits of ice with constant compression therapy, delivered through a specially designed wrap that attaches easily to a horse’s leg or hock. Used in 30-minute cycles at regular intervals, it reduces recovery time and accelerates the healing of damaged tissue. Applied after a rigorous workout, the RecoveryWrap-Equine System can actually prevent strains from becoming full-blown injuries.

The RecoveryWrap-Equine System is ideal for:

  • Post-workout cool-down
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Recovery from tendon or ligament injury
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Treating lameness

Applying cold therapy can improve a variety of tendon, joint, muscle and other soft tissue injuries by decreasing blood flow to the damaged area and slowing the metabolism of the surrounding tissue, reducing the chance that it will suffer damage from swelling and constriction.

Using cold and compression to prevent injury
Combining cold and compression therapy can curb exercise-induced inflammation. After a tissue injury, there is an immediate chemical reaction at the cellular level. Damaged capillaries leak cellular waste (water, dissolved electrolytes, and proteins) into the surrounding tissue. The body then sends scavenger cells into the injury site. Once the process starts, fluids build in the intercellular spaces causing swelling, a condition known as edema.

Rapidly applying cold therapy to injured tissue limits the inflammatory response by causing the blood vessels to constrict. This limits the blood flow to the injured site, moderating the release of the vasoactive substances and minimizing pain and swelling in the afflicted area.

A proven approach
The combination of cooling, compression, and heat has long been recognized as a highly effective method for treating pain, inflammation, and swelling. By decreasing blood flow and slowing metabolism, cooling and compression therapy may limit hemorrhage and cell death associated with tissue trauma, while also accelerating recovery and the return to normal activity. Heat helps to relax and loosen tissues, reducing soreness and stimulating blood flow to the affected area.

Contrast therapy—switching rapidly between heating and cooling—is thought to advance the healing process by alternately dilating and constricting blood vessels in the injured area, thereby stimulating waste removal and nutrient delivery while also reducing swelling and inflammation.

The VitalWrap-Equine System applies universally accepted procedures for treating sports injuries. When used properly, the Vital Wrap-Equine System reduces pain, muscle spasms, tissue damage, and swelling, ultimately allowing for faster and better healing and recovery. The combination of cold, heat and compression is the hardest part of this regimen to implement effectively. The VitalWrap-Equine System provides a practical and efficient treatment which helps your horse heal quickly and comfortably.

Applications include:

  • Acute & Chronic Lameness
  • Bowed Tendons
  • Bucked Shins
  • Capped Hocks
  • Carpitis
  • Cellulitis
  • Contusions
  • Desmitis
  • Edema
  • Laminitis
  • Lymphangitis
  • Pre- and Post-Operative Care
  • Static Congestion (Stocked-Up Legs)
  • Sesmoiditis
  • Tendonitis
  • Windpuffs

Preventing injury
While cold can help repair damaged tissue and curb exercise-induced inflammation, veterinarians recommend heat therapy prior to riding to make muscles more flexible and prevent injury. The VitalWrap-Equine System applies alternating heat and cold therapies to legs and hocks that increase blood flow and loosen up joints and tendons, offering an easier way to prepare your horse for the demands of a strenuous workout or competition. The result is a reduced risk of strain and better overall performance.

In addition to treating injury, the VitalWrap-Equine System is ideal for:

  • Pre-workout warm-ups
  • Pre-competition warm-ups
  • Flexibility treatment

Tami Hoag Thinks New VitalWrap Equine Product Will Be a Bestseller

Pacific Palisades, CA – Tami Hoag, New York Times best-selling author and
Grand Prix dressage rider, has tested the new product VitalWrap Equine in her
barn and believes it’s going to be a bestseller. VitalWrap Equine is a hot and cold
contrasting therapy unit designed to treat pain, inflammation and swelling in
horses.
Hoag’s success as a top amateur Grand Prix rider, and the recognition that
comes with the title of New York Times Bestseller, keeps her on the go and she
believes VitalWrap Equine will be an added benefit. VitalWrap Equine delivers a
unique combination of heating, cooling, and compression therapies in one
convenient device, providing drug-free pain relief for arthritis, chronic pain,
sprains, strains, inflammation, and post-surgical recovery.
As an FEI Grand Prix dressage competitor, Hoag divides her time between the
East and West coast. While in Malibu, she tested the VitalWrap Equine to see
how it would withstand the scorching heat of a 105-degree day. “We used it at
Tami’s farm on a horse’s leg for 45 minutes and the ice didn’t melt,” said equine
chiropractor Dr. Doug Ziegler, who is on the advisory board of Vital Wear, the
company that has developed VitalWrap Equine.
Ziegler said Hoag was thrilled that the new product held up in the Malibu heat.
"I love my Vital Wrap ice machine. It's so portable and easy to use, and the
consistency of the temperature is amazing. The Vital Wrap has become an
indispensable component of my treatment and maintenance program -- not only
for my horses, but for myself as well,” Hoag said.
Hoag already uses MacKinnon Ice Horse boots on her dressage horses, and has
long recognized the benefit of a cold therapy maintenance program. "Ice Horse
boots are a staple in my barn. No muss, no fuss, functional and effective. Perfect
for a busy barn," Hoag said.
Hoag will spend her winter season competing in Wellington, continuing to use
MacKinnon Ice Horse boots and the VitalWrap Equine system. Ziegler said
VitalWrap will officially launch its products during the Winter Equestrian Festival.
While not riding and competing her dressage horses, Hoag is busy working on
her next novel. She is the author of 14 consecutive New York Times Best-Selling
suspense novels including Dark Horse, Kill The Messenger, Prior Bad Acts and
The Alibi Man. To learn more about Hoag, visit her website at
